Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has announced the launch of three major development projects, worth approximately USD 409.79 million (around ₹3,420 crore), in collaboration with the World Bank. The announcement came during the inauguration of the newly revamped Global Business Centre in Taramani, which serves as a hub for over 130 World Bank offices across 189 countries and employs more than 1,500 people.
A centerpiece of the initiative is the Women Employment and Security (WE-SAFE) Project, which aims to enhance women's participation in high-growth, non-agricultural sectors. “We have allocated ₹1,185 crore over the next five years for this scheme,” the Chief Minister said.
The other two key projects include:
A sustainable marine resource management program
Phase 2 of the Tamil Nadu Rural Rejuvenation Project
CM Stalin also underscored Tamil Nadu’s enduring partnership with the World Bank, which has spanned over five decades and contributed to landmark programs such as the Nutrition and Health Systems Projects.
“The World Bank's support for Tamil Nadu goes beyond mere loans—it reflects a shared commitment to sustainable, equitable, and lasting progress,” he said. Previous transformative collaborations include urban development, modernization of road infrastructure, the TNIAMWARM irrigation project, coastal disaster mitigation, and a USD 190 million loan to support urban housing for economically weaker sections.
