Indian Railways has completed the comprehensive redevelopment of the historic 145-year-old Pratapnagar Railway Station in Vadodara under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, with an investment of Rs 71.58 crore aimed at enhancing passenger experience and operational efficiency.
The upgraded station now features modernised infrastructure and improved passenger amenities across Platforms 1, 2, and 3, along with the addition of a newly constructed Platform 4. Key enhancements include extended high-level platforms, upgraded shelters, improved seating arrangements, modern signage systems, and enhanced ticketing facilities, including dedicated accessible counters for persons with disabilities. To improve passenger convenience and accessibility, two lifts have also been installed.
The redevelopment has further included the construction of a new station building at the secondary entrance, complemented by commercial spaces, improved traffic management systems, dedicated parking facilities, and streamlined entry and exit routes. The concourse area has been extensively upgraded with modern flooring, enhanced lighting, contemporary wall finishes, and heritage-inspired murals that reflect the station’s historical significance.
Established in 1880 as an important hub of India’s narrow-gauge railway network and home to a railway workshop since 1922, Pratapnagar Railway Station is now being positioned as a satellite terminal for Vadodara. The redevelopment is expected to help decongest Vadodara Junction, improve the handling of long-distance train services, and strengthen connectivity to key destinations, including the Statue of Unity.
