Srinagar's Green Leap: CM Approves ₹361Cr Mega Waste Plant

Omar Abdullah has approved the establishment of an 800 tonnes-per-day Integrated Solid Waste Management (ISWM) project at Achan in Srinagar, officials said.

The approval was granted during the sixth meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Wednesday. The project aims to strengthen scientific waste management infrastructure in Srinagar and promote environmentally sustainable processing and disposal of municipal solid waste.

According to an official spokesperson, the proposed ISWM facility is designed to improve urban sanitation and introduce more efficient waste collection, segregation, treatment, and disposal systems across the city.

Estimated at ₹361 crore, the project will significantly enhance Srinagar’s waste processing capacity and help address the rising challenges of urban waste generation while supporting cleaner and more sustainable city management.
