On 18 April 2026, Dr. Sachin Shinde, IAS, Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Andaman Public Works Department (APWD), carried out a detailed inspection of ongoing and proposed water infrastructure projects within the jurisdiction of Gram Panchayat Mithakhari, accompanied by senior officials and local representatives.
The team included Prijith Rekh, Chief Engineer, APWD, Mohd Safiq, Pradhan of GP Mithakhari, along with other local leaders. During the visit, they reviewed the progress of the water project at Ograbraj Bada Nallah and assessed the proposed site for a water treatment plant at Alvis Tekrey. Dr. Shinde directed the development of a large pond, covering approximately 3000 square meters at Alvis Tekrey, to strengthen water storage capacity and promote long-term sustainability in the area.
The delegation also visited Sona Pahad Dam, where instructions were issued to construct an additional check weir to improve water conservation. At the Mithakhari Bada Nallah Check Weir, officials were directed to undertake desilting work and to build another check weir near the Panchayat Bhawan to further enhance water retention.
This inspection reflects the administration’s focused efforts toward improving water infrastructure and ensuring sustainable water resource management in South Andaman.
