The Odisha Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, has granted in-principle approval to a major ‘New City Development’ project within the Bhubaneswar Development Plan Area (BDPA), aimed at building a modern, inclusive urban hub.
Spread across 800 acres in Gothapatna, Malipada, and Daspur, the project involves a phased investment of ₹8,179 crore over 15 years, with ₹1,342 crore allocated for the initial phase (2025–2030).
A key milestone was marked with the signing of an MoU between the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) and Singapore-based Surbana Jurong Infrastructure (SJI), in the presence of Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam. SJI will serve as the master planning and infrastructure development consultant.
Envisioned as a multi-economic growth zone, the new township will include:
MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences & Exhibitions) infrastructure, Plug-and-play business hubs, Data centres
Affordable housing, Integrated transport systems, Green infrastructure and forest parks
Aligned with the state’s vision of ‘Viksit Odisha 2036’, the project prioritizes sustainability, inclusivity, and community-centric urban development, with BDA acting as the nodal agency,
