New Plant, Clean Slate: Trichy’s Rs 233.8 Crore STP Solution

Trichy is taking proactive steps to overhaul its wastewater management infrastructure. With the aging Panjapur sewage treatment plant overwhelmed beyond its 58 MLD capacity by expanding AMRUT drainage networks, heavy sludge accumulation recently triggered backflows and pipeline blockages.

Corporation Commissioner N Ponmani visited the site to supervise urgent desilting operations and check in on a critical long-term solution: the construction of a new 100 MLD centralized STP backed by an investment of Rs 233.8 crore. City officials have emphasized that once operational, the new plant will utilize advanced treatment processes to fully meet environmental benchmarks set by the National Green Tribunal and the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board.
