New Horizons: Kerala's Maritime Sector Gets a ₹5,000 Cr Lift

In a significant move to expand Kerala’s maritime infrastructure, the state government has finalized an agreement to lease 18.16 acres of land at Ramanthuruth to Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL). The site will host a massive ₹5,000 crore ship block building project, which the Chief Minister recently announced will create upwards of 2,000 direct jobs and bring in ₹1.70 crore in annual lease revenue (including GST).

CSL plans to utilize the land to establish a dedicated Block Fabrication Facility (BFF). This site will handle the pre-outfitting, painting, and finishing of heavy steel blocks. Once completed, these massive sections will be transported to CSL's new dry dock for final assembly. By streamlining the supply of ready-to-use steel blocks, the shipyard expects to significantly reduce vessel construction times, accelerate overall ship deliveries, and attract further investment into Kerala’s growing shipbuilding sector.
