Maharashtra: India's Digital Powerhouse Amplifies with 4 New Data Hubs

Maharashtra is set to accelerate India's digital transformation with four new data centre parks in Mumbai, Pune, and Nagpur, according to Industry Secretary P. Anbalagan.

Speaking at the CII Datacentre Summit, he highlighted Maharashtra’s leadership in the sector, hosting 60% of the country’s data centre operations, with Mumbai alone accounting for 54.9% of total capacity. The state’s advanced digital infrastructure, reliable power supply, and strategic connectivity make it a prime location for expansion.

The state’s data centre capacity is expected to increase from 500 MW to 800 MW by 2028, further solidifying its position as India's digital hub. With India’s total operational capacity at 2,337 MW, an additional 1.5 GW expansion is crucial to meet future demand.

Anbalagan also emphasized energy management, noting that Maharashtra’s new data centre policy allows power banking between non-peak and peak hours, enabling data centres with captive power sources to optimize costs.
