The Haryana government has extended the completion deadline for the Smart City projects in Karnal and Faridabad until 31 March 2027.
The decision was announced by Anurag Rastogi during a State-Level High-Powered Steering Committee meeting, in line with guidelines issued by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. The extension is intended to facilitate the completion of pending infrastructure works and ensure the smooth transfer of completed assets to relevant departments for long-term operations and maintenance.
In Faridabad, 32 of the 46 sanctioned projects, worth Rs 916.83 crore, have been completed so far. Meanwhile, Karnal has completed 86 out of 122 approved projects, with a total project value of Rs 930 crore. Both cities have utilised substantial funding support under the Smart City Mission, each receiving Rs 980 crore jointly funded by the Central and Haryana governments. Progress has also been made in asset transfers, with Faridabad handing over 23 completed projects and Karnal transferring 83 projects to respective agencies.
Launched to improve urban living standards, the Smart City initiatives focus on strengthening drainage systems, water supply networks, smart surveillance infrastructure, and modern road connectivity. Officials stated that the extended timeline will support the completion of projects currently in advanced stages, enabling enhanced civic amenities and sustainable urban development for residents in both districts.
