Jal Jeevan 2.0: The High-Tech Heart of UP's Water Mission

The Uttar Pradesh government has implemented a statewide Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system to strengthen rural water infrastructure under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).

Integrated with the Unified Command and Control System (UCCS), the platform enables real-time monitoring and automated management of water supply schemes across rural areas. It tracks critical parameters such as water quality, distribution efficiency, and asset performance, helping ensure safe and reliable drinking water access. Built on a network of approximately 0.7 million IoT-enabled sensors, the system aggregates live data into a centralized dashboard, enhancing transparency, enabling predictive maintenance, and supporting quicker, data-driven decision-making.

According to officials, the system spans over 36,000 water supply schemes and collects operational data from 38,940 tube wells, 39,966 overhead tanks, 568 clear water reservoirs, and 73 water treatment plants. At present, 7,225 schemes serving 17,045 villages have been integrated into the UCCS for operation and maintenance.

Officials state that this initiative improves efficiency and sustainability while ensuring consistent delivery of water in adequate quantity and quality, marking a significant step forward in modernizing rural water management across the state.
