IN-SPACe Greenlights New Advanced Manufacturing Centers

The Department of Space has approved the establishment of common technical facilities in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu to strengthen domestic manufacturing capabilities in India’s space sector, officials said on Friday.

The proposed centres will house advanced testing, validation, and integration infrastructure designed to support the development of space systems and related technologies.

IN-SPACe Chairman Pawan Kumar Goenka said that building space systems requires highly capital-intensive infrastructure, and the initiative represents a significant step toward creating a strong industry-led ecosystem for India’s growing space sector.

Officials added that IN-SPACe will oversee the procurement, installation, and commissioning of the technical infrastructure, operate the facilities for a specified period, and subsequently transfer ownership to the respective state governments.

The initiative is expected to enhance India’s indigenous space manufacturing ecosystem while encouraging greater private sector participation in the country’s expanding space industry.
