Green Wheels for Mysuru: KSRTC to Build ₹7-Crore EV Bus Depot

Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) will set up a new electric bus depot in Mysuru after receiving administrative approval from the state government for the project at Banni Mantap, where the KSRTC suburban bus stand is currently being developed.

The upcoming depot will be built on 4.5 acres and is designed to support Mysuru’s expanding electric public transport network with dedicated charging infrastructure. The project is estimated to cost around ₹7 crore.

According to the plan, the depot will accommodate parking for 75 electric buses and include charging facilities for 25 buses, along with other supporting infrastructure. The initiative follows the Union government’s approval of 100 electric buses for Mysuru as part of efforts to promote sustainable and eco-friendly urban mobility.

KSRTC has already floated a tender for the construction work and is expected to finalise the contractor by the end of this month. Construction is likely to commence in July after the contract is awarded.

At present, KSRTC operates 14 electric buses between Mysuru and Bengaluru, supported by two charging points at the KSRTC suburban bus stand.

Speaking to TOI, KSRTC Mysuru Urban Divisional Controller H T Veeresh said administrative approval has been secured and the tendering process is underway. He added that once the depot and charging infrastructure are completed, the newly sanctioned electric buses will be introduced for Mysuru city services.
