Gomati River to Power Tripura's New Urban Water Network

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Manik Saha, the Tripura government has proposed a major surface water initiative under the Tripura Water Grid project to ensure long-term drinking water security. Reviewed in a high-level meeting chaired by the Chief Minister, the plan aims to significantly reduce the state's heavy reliance on groundwater by tapping into surface water from the Gomati River. In its first phase, surplus water from the river will be treated and transported through a large-scale pipeline network to supply safe, potable water to key urban centers, including Udaipur, Bishramganj, Bishalgarh, and Agartala. The broader, long-term vision of the project involves connecting 12 rivers across Tripura into an integrated supply network to combat groundwater depletion, improve water quality, and strengthen water security for both urban and rural populations.
