JSW Infrastructure Ltd, a leading private sector port operator, has announced the commissioning of its Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal at Arakkonam, Chennai. The company confirmed in a regulatory filing that the Southern Railway, Chennai Division, has granted approval for the commencement of commercial operations with immediate effect.
Developed on land owned by Indian Railways under the Government of India’s “Gati Shakti” initiative, the terminal is aimed at improving logistics efficiency and strengthening multi-modal connectivity across the country. JSW Infrastructure had secured the contract to build and operate the facility in June 2024.
Strategically located at Arakkonam, the terminal is well-positioned to serve Tamil Nadu’s industrial hinterland, facilitating seamless cargo movement between rail and road networks.
The facility commenced operations on April 14, 2026. Built under a long-term concession model on railway land, the terminal is expected to enhance JSW Infrastructure’s logistics capabilities in southern India by enabling faster and more cost-efficient handling of bulk and break-bulk cargo, while also expanding its footprint beyond traditional port operations.
