Delhi Jal Board Sanctions Major ₹4,500 Cr Wastewater Expansion

Under its Yamuna Rejuvenation Programme, the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has sanctioned projects totaling nearly ₹4,500 crore to modernize the capital’s wastewater management and sewage infrastructure. Key initiatives include building 15 Decentralised Sewage Treatment Plants (DSTPs), laying 989 km of new sewer lines across 244 colonies and 57 villages (benefiting 3.3 million residents), upgrading sludge management at 10 major STPs, and deploying in-situ treatment for the Delhi Gate drain. According to Water Minister Parvesh Verma, the new DSTPs—set for completion within 21 months—will expand Delhi’s treatment capacity by 227 MGD, raising total capacity to 1,041 MGD to effectively treat the city's 1,000 MGD daily sewage output.
