In a strategic move to improve service quality and revive underperforming assets, the Himachal Pradesh government has approved the operation of 14 loss-making hotels under the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) on an Operation and Maintenance (O&M) basis.
The decision, initially cleared in a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and later ratified by the HPTDC Board of Directors, aims to rejuvenate struggling properties while enhancing the state’s tourism experience. Officials stated that the initiative will improve hotel upkeep, customer service, and overall efficiency, easing the financial strain on HPTDC.
The Principal Secretary (Tourism) has directed the HPTDC Managing Director to roll out the plan within three months. Properties identified for the O&M model include Hotel Hill Top (Swarghat), Hotel Lakeview (Bilaspur), Hotel Apple Blossom (Fagu), Hotel Shivalik (Parwanoo), Kashmir House (Dharamshala), and nine other hotels in key tourist hubs.
The government expects the move to boost operational standards, attract more visitors, and spur tourism-driven economic growth, positioning Himachal Pradesh as a more competitive and visitor-friendly destination.
