Singapore-based Blue Planet Environmental Solutions is set to establish the world’s largest waste processing facility at Kodungaiyur in North Chennai, Tamil Nadu, in collaboration with the Greater Chennai Corporation. The ambitious project aims to eliminate a massive 6.6 million cubic metre garbage mound through large-scale bio-mining, dramatically improving public health and environmental conditions in the region.
Prashant Singh, Co-founder and CEO, stated: “We are clearing the landfill there (in Kodungaiyur). You will see in the next three years, we’ll make the (garbage) dumpyard disappear for you.” The project will transform the long-polluted Kodungaiyur site—one of Chennai’s most prominent ecological challenges—into restored, usable land.
Beyond landfill reclamation, Blue Planet is also collaborating with local farmers to process agricultural residues such as paddy stubble into compressed biogas (CBG). This not only promotes renewable energy generation and sustainable waste management but also helps tackle stubble burning, a major cause of air pollution.
The initiative marks a significant step in advancing Tamil Nadu’s waste-to-energy and circular economy goals, positioning the state as a leader in integrated environmental solutions.
