Saint-Gobain has begun construction of its seventh float glass line and fifth mineral wool insulation line at its Oragadam facility near Chennai, marking a major expansion of its operations in India.
The new float glass unit, with a capacity of 1,000 tonnes per day, is designed to meet the rising demand for high value-added glass in the construction sector. Equipped with advanced digital technologies and energy-efficient systems, the plant will focus on reducing environmental impact.
Simultaneously, Saint-Gobain is developing its largest mineral wool insulation facility in the Asia-Pacific region at the same site. With an annual capacity of 50,000 tonnes, the near net-zero carbon plant will support India’s growing building and construction market, integrating cutting-edge digital and engineering solutions.
Sreedhar N, Senior Vice-President and CEO – Asia Pacific and India, stated that the projects will enhance the company’s ability to deliver high-performance, sustainable solutions tailored to evolving market needs. The investments reflect Saint-Gobain’s strategic emphasis on Industry 4.0, sustainable manufacturing, and innovative product offerings to address increasing domestic and regional demand.
