The Union Cabinet has approved the construction of a six-lane, access-controlled Capital Region Ring Road (Bhubaneswar Bypass) in Odisha under the Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM), with a capital outlay of ₹8,307.74 crore.
The 110.875 km greenfield highway aims to ease heavy congestion between Rameshwar and Tangi on the existing National Highway, which currently passes through Khordha, Bhubaneswar, and Cuttack. According to an official statement, the project will significantly benefit Odisha and neighboring eastern states by diverting heavy commercial traffic away from these cities, thereby improving freight efficiency, lowering logistics costs, and supporting socio-economic development in the region.
The proposed alignment will connect with three National Highways (NH-55, NH-57, and NH-655) and one State Highway (SH-65), ensuring seamless connectivity to key economic and logistics hubs. It will also link to a major railway station, airport, proposed Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP), and two major ports.
The project is expected to generate approximately 74.43 lakh person-days of direct employment and 93.04 lakh person-days of indirect employment.
