The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is planning to open most stretches of the Gurgaon–Pataudi–Rewari highway to traffic by mid-February, even as construction work on certain key structures remains underway.
According to officials, the highway will be partially opened to ease commuter inconvenience along the corridor, with the railway overbridge (RoB) near Pahari village and a few other pending structures excluded. While the overall project—excluding the RoB—is now expected to be completed by March, the RoB itself is likely to be ready by June.
Once operational, the highway is expected to significantly improve connectivity between Gurgaon, southern Haryana, and Rajasthan, while also reducing traffic congestion on the Delhi–Jaipur Expressway. It will serve as an alternative route to major industrial hubs such as Manesar, Bilaspur, and Dharuhera, facilitating smoother movement for both commuters and freight traffic.
The ₹900 crore project was originally slated for completion in December 2022. Its foundation stone was laid in July 2020 by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, though construction commenced only in November 2021 under a revised two-year timeline. A senior NHAI official said that most of the work has been completed, except for a few structures, and efforts are underway to open the road to traffic between January and mid-February, excluding the RoB.
Delays in completing the railway overbridge were primarily due to late approvals from the railways, pushing its completion timeline to June. Another structure affected by delays is the flyover at the Dwarka Expressway junction, where work has been held up due to a 400 kV high-tension power transmission line that needs to be relocated.
Although the main carriageway and associated works are largely complete, the project has seen multiple deadline extensions owing to approval-related issues and delays in shifting utilities.
