MoD Greenlights Key Land Transfer for Hyderabad's Elevated Corridors

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has officially granted working permission and approved the transfer of defence land to the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) for the construction of elevated corridors under the Strategic Road Development Project (SRDP) within the Secunderabad Cantonment area.

This decision follows a recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the MoD and the Telangana government, under which 65.038 acres of defence land will be exchanged for 435 acres of state-owned land. In its latest order, the MoD has approved the transfer of 2,26,039.91 square meters along National Highway-44 and 4,59,222.70 square meters along State Highway-1 (SH-1) to HMDA. The land exchange includes both Equal Value Land (EVL) and a cash compensation of ₹748.58 crore.

A formal MoU will also be executed between the Indian Army and the CEO of the Secunderabad Cantonment Board to define EVL allocation terms and address any cost escalations related to the project.

Additionally, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has authorized the utilization of ₹303 crore—deposited by the Telangana government—for development works within the Secunderabad Cantonment, further reinforcing the state’s infrastructure upgrade efforts.
