The Andhra Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (APMRCL) has issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) to hire a consultant for preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for an innovative double-decker structure integrating a four-lane flyover with a metro rail line. This integrated infrastructure is part of Phase 1 of the metro rail projects in Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada.
The consultant will be tasked with developing DPRs for two sections: a 20.16 km stretch in Visakhapatnam (including segments of 15.1 km and 5.06 km) and a 4.7 km segment in Vijayawada. These DPRs will be submitted to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for approval, with the consultant also supporting APMRCL and NHAI during the review process.
Previously approved metro plans include three corridors totaling 46.23 km in Visakhapatnam and 38.40 km in Vijayawada. The primary corridor in Visakhapatnam spans 34 km along NH-16 from Kommadi Junction to the Steel Plant gate, while the Vijayawada corridor runs 4.7 km along NH-16 from Ramavarappadu Junction to Nidamanuru.
In parallel, NHAI had undertaken feasibility studies for multiple flyovers in both cities. To optimize space and reduce costs, the state government and NHAI have agreed to merge the metro and flyover projects into a double-decker design. APMRCL will serve as the sole executing agency, with project costs shared between APMRCL and NHAI.
Interested consultants must submit proposals by 3:00 PM on May 14, with bid opening at 3:30 PM the same day. The chosen firm will have six weeks from the Letter of Acceptance (LoA) to deliver the DPRs, marking a major step forward for smart urban transit in Andhra Pradesh.
