Mumbai's New View: The Aarey Sky Ropeway

To promote tourism and increase ridership at the Aarey-JVLR Metro Station, the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) is planning a ropeway link connecting the station to Film City in Goregaon, with a potential extension to Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP).

The proposed 3-km ropeway will pass through the Aarey hills, helping to reduce traffic congestion at Dindoshi and Yashodham Junction along the Goregaon-Mulund Link Road. Designed to carry 2,000–3,000 passengers per hour per direction (PPHPD), the system will significantly improve last-mile connectivity in the area.

MMRC is currently assessing various ropeway technologies, including monocable, bi-cable, and tri-cable detachable gondola systems. Once the route alignment is finalized, the project will be tendered under a public-private partnership (PPP) model through a design, build, finance, operate, and transfer (DBFOT) framework.
