On September 13, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated and laid the foundation for a series of infrastructure projects in Aizawl, Mizoram, collectively worth over ₹9,000 crore. The initiatives span key sectors including railways, roads, energy, and sports, aimed at accelerating regional development and connectivity.
A major milestone was the inauguration of the 51-km Bairabi–Sairang railway line, which connects Mizoram’s capital to the Indian Railways network for the first time. Designed to improve safe, efficient, and cost-effective travel, the line is an engineering feat—featuring 45 tunnels and 55 major bridges. Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw emphasized that the new line will integrate Mizoram with major cities like Guwahati, Kolkata, and Delhi, boosting tourism, job creation, and trade. Cargo services are set to commence this week, helping reduce transportation costs for materials like cement and steel.
PM Modi also flagged off three new express trains: the Sairang–Delhi Rajdhani, Sairang–Guwahati Express, and Sairang–Kolkata Express, further enhancing long-distance connectivity.
Additionally, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for the Chhimtuipui River Bridge on the Lawngtlai–Siaha Road. Once completed, the bridge will ensure all-weather access and cut travel time by two hours, significantly improving regional mobility and integration with the national infrastructure grid.
