₹166 Cr for Bengaluru: AstraZeneca's Next Chapter in India

Global biopharmaceutical leader AstraZeneca is investing ₹166 crore to expand its operations in Bengaluru, further solidifying its presence in India. The expansion will create 400 new jobs, increasing the total workforce at the upgraded facility to 1,300 employees. This move follows the recent scale-up of AstraZeneca’s Global Innovation and Technology Centre (GITC) in Chennai and is part of the company’s broader strategic growth in India.

The Bengaluru hub is set to become a key global centre supporting a wide range of functions, including clinical research, AI-enabled healthcare innovation, global business services, digital health, regulatory compliance, and centralized data analytics.

“Our global hub in Bengaluru is a strategic investment that supports our ambition to deliver 20 new medicines by 2030,” said Jackie Crockford, Vice President of Global Business Services at AstraZeneca.

With this expansion, AstraZeneca’s total workforce in India will grow to 4,000, underlining the country’s critical role in its global operations.

Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao welcomed the investment, saying, “This aligns with our vision to drive high-value employment and establish Bengaluru as a biotechnology and digital health capital.” The enhanced facility is expected to improve clinical trial efficiency, strengthen global regulatory compliance, and accelerate innovation in AI-powered healthcare solutions.
