Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia visited Gwalior on April 29, 2026, to review the progress of major infrastructure initiatives, including the Western Bypass and the redevelopment of Gwalior Railway Station.
During the visit, Scindia highlighted the significance of the 28.5-kilometre Western Bypass project, being developed at a cost of ₹1,347 crore. The project is expected to significantly enhance connectivity by linking the Agra-Gwalior corridor with the Shivpuri Expressway. Once completed, the bypass will reduce travel time considerably, allowing commuters to cover a 30-km stretch in approximately 15 minutes. It is also expected to spur development in western Gwalior, an area that has historically seen slower growth compared to the eastern part of the city.
Scindia also inspected the ongoing redevelopment work at Gwalior Railway Station, reviewing key facilities such as platforms, parking infrastructure, and heritage structures. He directed officials to ensure timely completion of the project while maintaining high construction and service standards.
The minister further noted that these infrastructure upgrades, along with initiatives like the development of an international cricket stadium in western Gwalior, are part of a larger strategy to position the city as a “counter magnet” to Delhi. These efforts align with a broader vision to accelerate Gwalior’s urban growth and infrastructure transformation under the leadership of Narendra Modi and the state government.
