Engineering Marvel: 45-Day Overhaul Set for Bandra-Khar Rail Flyover

Western Railway is exploring advanced construction techniques—including precast segmental methods—to rebuild the Bandra-Khar Road flyover during a condensed 45-day block period. This move slashes the originally estimated six-month timeline, drastically reducing suburban train disruptions.

As part of the 30.04 km Mumbai Central–Borivali 6th line project under MUTP Phase II, the initiative will segregate long-distance and suburban traffic to boost punctuality and service frequency. With the Khar–Borivali stretch already commissioned, focus has shifted to the complex Mumbai Central–Khar segment. Key milestones—including near-complete land acquisition, utility shifting, and bridge construction—are moving forward rapidly to modernize Mumbai's western rail corridor.
