Nagpur is advancing a Rs 952.32 crore proposal for the Kolar-Kanhan barrage project to secure the city's long-term water supply. Submitted to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for administrative approval, the project involves building a 438-meter-long barrage on the Kanhan River near Bina village.
Designed by the Water Resources Department, the initiative will expand beyond the city's current 740 MLD intake (supplied by the Pench and existing Kanhan plants) to meet multi-utilization demands totaling 179.601 MCM. Upon approval, the Irrigation Department will handle construction to future-proof Nagpur's raw water sourcing.
