The Telangana government is considering preparing a fresh Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed Kupti Lift Irrigation Project across the Kadam River in Neredigonda mandal, with the aim of better addressing irrigation and drinking water needs in the Boath Assembly constituency.
This move comes in response to demands from local residents and public representatives, who have called for increasing the project’s storage capacity to 6.5 tmc ft from the earlier proposal. Regional leaders recently met Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka and other ministers, expressing concerns that previous government orders did not adequately meet the constituency’s water requirements.
They proposed allocating 3.5 tmc ft of water to irrigate nearly 35,000 acres across Boath, Neredigonda, Echoda, and Gudihathnoor mandals. In addition, they suggested releasing 2 tmc ft downstream into the Kadam Project and reserving 1 tmc ft for drinking water needs.
Officials noted that the proposed site is located in a natural valley, making higher storage capacity feasible, with estimated inflows ranging between 19 and 23 tmc ft. The proposal also includes plans to develop a tourism circuit by linking Kupti with nearby attractions such as Kuntala Waterfall, promoting recreational activities and supporting regional development.
