Birla Corp Scales to 21.4 MT with ₹300Cr Kundanganj Expansion

RCCPL Private Limited, a wholly owned arm of Birla Corporation Limited, has commissioned a third production line at its Kundanganj facility, adding 1.4 million tonnes (MT) of capacity.

With this expansion, Birla Corporation’s total production capacity has increased to 21.4 MT, with plans to scale it up to 27.6 MT by 2028–29. The Kundanganj project, developed at an estimated cost of ₹300 crore, is expected to enhance the company’s presence in central and eastern Uttar Pradesh.

The added grinding capacity is projected to generate around 100,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities, while improving regional competitiveness. Clinker supply for the unit will be sourced from the company’s integrated plants at Satna, Chanderia, and Mukutban.

The expansion aligns with government initiatives such as Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana Gramin, supporting housing development and regional economic growth. The unit is also focusing on increased production of Portland Pozzolana Cement (PPC) through enhanced fly ash utilization, reinforcing its push toward blended cement.

To support operations, infrastructure upgrades including improved road and rail connectivity are underway. Additionally, a 5-MW solar power plant is being developed at Kundanganj and is expected to be operational in the second quarter of the next fiscal year. Once commissioned, renewable energy usage at the unit will rise from just over 30% to around 40%.

The project will benefit from 12-year GST-linked investment incentives. Alongside this, Birla Corporation is expanding capacity at its Maihar unit and planning three new grinding facilities to reduce logistics costs and strengthen its position in high-growth markets.
