A New Lease on Life for Mysore Paper Mills

The Karnataka government is actively exploring the revival of Mysore Paper Mills (MPM) in Bhadravathi by leasing the facility to private players, marking a shift away from state-run operations.

Responding to a query by Bhadravathi MLA B K Sangameshwara, Industries Minister M B Patil stated that restarting the mill under government management is not viable. Instead, the state is considering offering exemptions and relief measures to attract bidders, with interested parties seeking freedom from legacy liabilities and permissions for eucalyptus cultivation.

To streamline the process, MPM has appointed Infrastructure Development Corporation (Karnataka) (iDeCK) as the transaction advisor. The Bengaluru-based consultancy will handle bid preparation, evaluation, and agreement finalisation.

The leasing initiative is expected to adhere to regulatory frameworks and, once concluded, could revive industrial activity and generate employment in the Bhadravathi region.
