The North East Gas Grid (NEGG) has achieved a major milestone with the commissioning of the 396-km Guwahati–Numaligarh section, which is now fully operational.
This newly activated stretch links the Numaligarh Refinery (NRL) to the gas grid, establishing the project’s first major industrial connection. The NEGG is being developed by Indradhanush Gas Grid Ltd. (IGGL)—a joint venture of IOCL, ONGC, GAIL, OIL, and NRL—with the objective of extending piped natural gas across all eight Northeastern states.
Aligned with the Hydrocarbon Vision 2030, the project encompasses a 1,688-km pipeline network designed to transport 4.75 mmscmd of natural gas. Full commissioning is targeted for 31 March 2026.
Once completed, the grid will integrate Assam, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Meghalaya, and Sikkim, strengthening natural gas supply for both regional and national markets. “The project will boost economic growth by providing reliable gas access and lowering energy costs for households, businesses, and industries,” an official stated.
