HCL's Big Bet: ₹400 Cr for Copper Growth

Hindustan Copper Ltd (HCL) is set to invest ₹400 crore in constructing a new 3 million tonne per annum (MTPA) concentrator plant at its Malanjkhand facility in Madhya Pradesh. The project, scheduled to begin construction next year, is part of the company's broader strategy to triple its ore production capacity to 12.2 MTPA by FY 2030-31. The expansion will be funded entirely through internal resources.

The upcoming plant will complement the existing 2.5 MTPA concentrator at Malanjkhand. State-run engineering consultancy Mecon is currently preparing the tender documents and technical design for the project. Concentrator plants play a crucial role in mineral processing by separating valuable minerals from raw ore ahead of further refinement.

In addition to Malanjkhand, HCL also plans to build another 3 MTPA concentrator plant at its Rakha mine in Jharkhand, further boosting its processing capacity.

HCL currently operates concentrator plants across Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Rajasthan, and holds all active copper ore mining leases in India. With these expansions, the company is positioning itself for significant production growth in the coming years.
