Rithwik Bags Mumbai Metro's Dongri Depot Contract (CA-207)

Rithwik Projects Pvt. Ltd. (RPPL) emerged as the lowest bidder for the civil construction of the Dongri Depot for Mumbai Metro’s Red Line, announced by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) on Tuesday. This major project, valued at ₹733.24 crore, is crucial for the development of the Red Line, encompassing Line-9, Line-7, and Line-7A.

The Dongri Depot, under Package CA-207, will span 41.36 hectares in north-west Mumbai. It will house and maintain BEML trains, including an Operations Control Centre (OCC), a 690m test track, stabling and workshop sheds, and multiple substations. The depot's extensive facilities are designed to support the entire Red Line network, enhancing connectivity across key areas.

MMRDA had initially estimated the project at ₹639.58 crore, with a construction timeline of 52 months. Despite Rithwik Projects' bid being 14.64% higher than the estimate, it is considered reasonable by Mumbai’s standards. This will be Rithwik Projects' second depot contract in Mumbai, following their Line-5 Kasheli Depot contract awarded in September 2023.

The bid evaluation process, surprisingly swift for MMRDA, saw KPC Projects disqualified for non-compliance. RPPL's successful bid highlights their expanding role in Mumbai’s metro infrastructure development. The Dongri Depot project includes extensive land development, requiring significant preparatory works due to the site's current topography.

Access to the depot will necessitate a 4.9 km extension of Line-9, featuring two new elevated stations. Once completed, the depot will consolidate the stabling and maintenance of Red Line train-sets currently distributed across other depots.
