Polycab India has signed a major contract worth ₹6,447.54 crore with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) to serve as the Project Implementation Agency (PIA) for the BharatNet project across Karnataka, Goa, and Puducherry. The contract falls under Package 4 of the Amended BharatNet Programme, a flagship initiative aimed at expanding digital connectivity in rural and underserved regions.
Under the agreement, Polycab will be responsible for the design, supply, construction, installation, upgradation, and long-term operation and maintenance of the middle-mile digital infrastructure in the three telecom circles.
The total project outlay includes:
₹3,741.92 crore for capital expenditure (capex)
₹2,245.15 crore for operational expenditure (opex) on the new infrastructure
₹460.47 crore for opex on existing infrastructure
The construction phase is to be completed within three years, after which Polycab will manage operations and maintenance for 10 years. Maintenance expenses are structured at 5.5% of capex annually for the first five years, increasing to 6.5% annually for the subsequent five years.
This contract further strengthens Polycab’s position in the digital infrastructure space and aligns with India’s broader goal of universal high-speed broadband access under Digital India.
