BPCL & Sembcorp JV Supercharges India’s Green Hydrogen Sector

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), in partnership with Sembcorp Industries, has achieved a key milestone through its joint venture, NeuEN Green Energy, by securing a green hydrogen supply order.

The contract entails the supply of 10,000 tonnes per annum of green hydrogen to Numaligarh Refinery Limited in Assam. As part of the agreement, the joint venture will establish a dedicated green hydrogen production facility at the refinery, supported by a long-term offtake arrangement to ensure demand visibility and operational stability.

NeuEN Green Energy is a 50:50 joint venture between BPCL and Sembcorp Green Hydrogen India, combining capabilities to scale up green hydrogen production in India.

The project is expected to commence commercial operations by 2028 and will integrate renewable energy sources with advanced storage solutions to enable round-the-clock supply. Notably, it has achieved one of the most competitive tariff discoveries in the segment, marking a significant step toward improving the commercial viability of green hydrogen and accelerating decarbonisation in India’s refining sector.
