Construction on India’s first urban transport ropeway system—the ₹807-crore Kashi Ropeway Project in Varanasi—is nearing completion, with nearly 96% of the work done. Connecting Cantt Railway Station to Godaulia, the project laid foundation by PM Narendra Modi in 2023 is designed to bypass city traffic and offer a faster route for locals, devotees, and tourists. Trial runs are currently underway, with passenger operations slated to begin in December 2026.
