Sweetening Sustainability: ORSL and VSI Ink Green Deal

Mumbai-based cleantech company Organic Recycling Systems (ORSL) signed a strategic memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Pune’s Vasantdada Sugar Institute (VSI) on 22 July 2025, marking a significant collaboration in sustainable waste management, green energy, and biofuel research.

The partnership aims to drive technological innovation and address key environmental challenges by leveraging ORSL’s expertise in waste valorisation and bioenergy solutions alongside VSI’s global reputation in sugar industry research and academic excellence.

Under the MoU, the two organisations will jointly explore the transformation of agro-biomass, sugarcane trash, and other sugar industry waste into high-value products and renewable energy. They also plan to apply for external funding from national bodies such as the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Department of Science and Technology (DST), Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), and Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC).

The collaboration will include joint research, technology validation, consulting, and innovation outreach through workshops, seminars, and academic programs. The partnership also aims to support start-ups working in sustainable technologies and submit joint proposals for national and international funding—fostering entrepreneurship and scientific progress in the circular economy space.
