The Government of Telangana, led by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, has signed Letters of Intent (LoIs) with prominent Japanese eco town companies to establish an eco town in Hyderabad. This initiative focuses on sustainable waste management, recycling, and environmental restoration, as part of a larger strategy to advance circular economy practices in the state.
Inspired by the remarkable environmental transformation of Kitakyushu—once plagued by pollution and now a global leader in sustainable urban development—Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and the "Telangana Rising" delegation visited the Japanese city during their recent tour. The restoration of the Murasaki River and Kitakyushu’s cutting-edge recycling systems provided a model for Hyderabad's own sustainability roadmap.
Key discussions during the visit included the potential establishment of a sister city partnership between Hyderabad and Kitakyushu, the possibility of a direct flight between the two cities, and the proposal to launch a Japanese-language school in Hyderabad. The delegation also visited industrial recycling facilities and joined a guided riverfront walk to explore best practices in environmental engineering and circular economy technologies.
Kazuhisa Takeuchi, Mayor of Kitakyushu, expressed strong support for the collaboration, emphasizing a shared commitment to knowledge exchange and technological cooperation. “We are delighted that we will be working together to establish an eco town in Hyderabad,” added Chief Minister Reddy, reaffirming Telangana’s dedication to sustainable urban development.
