Equinor has successfully delivered its first LNG cargo to Deepak Fertilisers and Petrochemicals Corporation Limited (DFPCL), marking the beginning of a strategic long-term supply partnership between the two companies.
The LNG shipment, sourced from the Hammerfest LNG Plant in Norway, represents a significant milestone in international energy trade as the first energy cargo delivered under the recently implemented Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) between India and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA).
The partnership highlights the growing importance of natural gas as a key feedstock for ammonia production and fertilizer manufacturing. By securing a stable LNG supply, DFPCL aims to ensure consistent production of essential downstream chemicals and fertilizers, supporting agricultural productivity and strengthening food security in India.
The collaboration also reflects Equinor’s expanding presence in international energy markets and its focus on supporting India’s industrial and agricultural sectors through reliable energy supplies. The agreement is expected to pave the way for deeper trade and energy cooperation between Norway and India while ensuring sustained resource availability for long-term agricultural sustainability.
