Balrampur Chini Mills (BCML) has approved the setting up of a Lactogypsum processing plant in Kumbhi, Uttar Pradesh, as part of its broader push toward sustainability and value-added operations. The project is designed to utilise by-products from its upcoming Polylactic Acid (PLA) facility, strengthening the company’s integrated manufacturing model.
The proposed plant involves an investment of up to ₹160 crore and will use lactogypsum—generated during PLA production—to manufacture gypsum boards. This initiative aims to reduce industrial waste while promoting environmentally responsible production. The facility is expected to have an annual capacity of around 76 lakh gypsum boards, catering to demand from the construction and infrastructure sectors. Commercial operations are targeted to begin by December 2027, supporting BCML’s transition toward sustainable industrial practices and diversified revenue streams.
In addition, the company’s board has approved a ₹450 crore fundraise through a preferential equity issue, subject to shareholder approval, to strengthen its balance sheet and support growth initiatives. It has also revised the capital expenditure for its PLA project to approximately ₹3,080 crore, reflecting updated cost estimates and project requirements.
