Delhi's EV Policy Extended: Powering a Greener Future!

The Delhi government has extended its current Electric Vehicle (EV) policy until March 2026, or until a new version is notified, to allow more time for in-depth public consultations. The decision was made during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta at the Delhi Secretariat.

Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh highlighted the importance of broader stakeholder engagement, stating, “We want the next phase of EV adoption in Delhi to reflect inputs from citizens, industry, and environmental experts.”

Launched in 2020, Delhi’s EV policy significantly boosted adoption—especially among two-wheelers and e-rickshaws. However, key issues such as public charging infrastructure, battery end-of-life (EOL) management, and EV waste handling persist.

Officials confirmed that the upcoming revised policy will likely include expanded infrastructure plans, restructured subsidies, and clearly defined roles for public and private stakeholders. The current extension follows the expiry of a previous three-month extension on July 15.
