Purnia Airport in Bihar is nearing operational readiness, with 95% of construction completed across key components including the terminal building, runway, internal roads, and supporting infrastructure.
Authorities plan to hand over the facility by September 5, ahead of its formal inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 17. Developed at an estimated cost of ₹400 crore, the airport will be the fourth in the state—joining Patna, Gaya, and Darbhanga—and will feature Bihar’s longest runway at 9,000 meters.
The airport is equipped with modern infrastructure such as a passenger terminal, apron, cargo complex, AC chiller plant, sewage treatment plant (STP), water and fire tanks, electrical substation, aviation fuel farm, commercial plaza, surface parking, and an aerobridge.
Strategically located with strong road connectivity and ongoing highway widening projects, the airport is expected to serve the Koshi-Seemanchal region and adjoining areas, significantly improving regional accessibility.
The airport code PXN has appeared on IndiGo’s booking portal, signaling imminent ticket availability and generating widespread anticipation among residents awaiting the inaugural flight.
