Kailashahar Airport Revival Facing a ₹500 Cr Reality Check

The reopening of Tripura’s historic Kailashahar airport in Unakoti district faces significant delays due to land acquisition challenges. According to Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, expanding the runway to accommodate even ATR aircraft will require an estimated ₹400–500 crore. While Chief Minister Manik Saha has engaged with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for a feasibility report, the assessment remains pending. Meanwhile, Congress leader Birajit Sinha has urged swift action, citing economic growth and regional defense concerns following reports of a nearby Bangladeshi air base.
