GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd. (GHIAL) has announced a significant capital expenditure plan of nearly Rs 14,000 crore to be implemented by FY 2030–31, aimed at transforming Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Hyderabad into a future-ready aviation hub.
The expansion blueprint includes increasing the capacity of the existing terminal, constructing a new terminal, and developing a second runway. The project also envisions major upgrades in road connectivity, integration with the metro rail network, and expansion of cargo handling and parking infrastructure to support long-term growth.
Currently ranked as India’s fourth largest airport, RGIA has witnessed rapid passenger growth—from 18.3 million in FY18 to 29.5 million—underscoring the urgent need for capacity enhancement. GHIAL's strategic investment will enable the airport to meet rising passenger and cargo demand while reinforcing its role as a key node in both domestic and international aviation networks.
The project is expected to significantly boost regional economic development and elevate the overall passenger experience.
