AIESL's MRO Facility Secures Historic EASA Approval

Air India Engineering Services Ltd (AIESL) has secured EASA Part-145 certification for its MRO facility at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport — the first in South India and only the second in India to receive this accreditation.

The certification from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) allows AIESL to service aircraft registered in Europe or leased under European regulatory frameworks. The approval follows the successful maintenance of a UK Defence F-35 fighter jet, marking a significant achievement for India’s MRO sector.

With the certification in place, AIESL plans to construct a new dual-unit hangar adjacent to the existing facility. It will accommodate either one wide-body or two narrow-body aircraft and include eco-friendly systems, upgraded overhaul zones, and expanded logistics support. The new facility is expected to be operational within two years, subject to board and tender clearances.

Commissioned in 2011, the current six-hectare MRO unit handles Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 variants, offering base and line maintenance, structural repairs, and component overhauls.
